Password-Hashing Status
Computers are used in our everyday activities, with high volumes of users accessing provided services. One-factor authentication consisting of a username and a password is the common choice to authenticate users in the web. However, the poor password management practices are exploited by attackers that disclose the users’ credentials, harming both users and vendors. In most of these occasions t...
متن کاملSecure Hashing Algorithm and Advance Encryption Algorithm in Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is one of the most sharp and important movement in various computing technologies. It provides flexibility to users, cost effectiveness, location independence, easy maintenance, enables multitenancy, drastic performance improvements, and increased productivity. On the other hand, there are also major issues like security. Being a common server, security for a cloud is a major is...
متن کاملAn Assessment of the Oracle Password Hashing Algorithm
In this paper the authors examine the mechanism used in Oracle databases for protecting users' passwords. We review the algorithm used for generating password hashes, and show that the current mechanism presents a number of weaknesses, making it straightforward for an attacker with limited resources to recover a user's plaintext password from the hashed value. We also describe how to implement ...
متن کاملProofs of Security for the Unix Password Hashing Algorithm
We give the first proof of security for the full Unix password hashing algorithm (rather than of a simplified variant). Our results show that it is very good at extracting almost all of the available strength from the underlying cryptographic primitive and provide good reason for confidence in the Unix construction.
متن کاملA Secure Iris Image Encryption Technique Using Bio-Chaotic Algorithm
Due to dramatic enhancement in computers and communications and due to huge use of electronic media, security gains more and more importance especially in those organizations where information is more critical and more important. The older techniques such as conventional cryptography use encryption keys, which are long bit strings and are very hard to memorize such a long random numbers. Also i...
